The Psychology of Attitude

Those who practice conventional allopathic medicine usually steal power from their patients. Your friends do this to you as well. I have heard way too many times, “Don’t worry about a thing; I’ll take care of you.” Doctors (including psychiatrists/psychologists), drug companies, and government health authorities always imply that patients have no power over their own health. Your friends, family, work mates, etc., also play on that feeling, both when telling you about their illnesses and when “advising” you about your own health. Disease is just a matter of bad luck, or it’s in your genes (your parents or grandparents are to blame). They also claim there are no such things as healing foods, beneficial herbs, or vital nutritional supplements. Only drugs can help you now. That is all a load of BS, by the way, but it is part of the control drama perpetrated every day by promoters of conventional medicine and those who have been sufficiently brainwashed by that drama to fall in line with such beliefs.

Some of you are saying, “Yeah, I know all that, and I don’t fall for it.” Maybe you have become sufficiently wary of the professionals, but I guarantee you are susceptible still, if only to your friends on those forums who daily tell you, “I just heard from a knowledgeable source that X will get rid of <yeast, heavy metals, pick a subject>.” Yes, you do fall for it, because I get questions from many of you who believe they are logical, yet they ask me to confirm something from a website that clearly is pushing pure BS to make a profit. If you are at all susceptible to someone dangling a carrot, we need to talk about adjusting your way of thinking, and attitude plays a big role in that.

But first, we need to talk a little bit about segmentation of your brain-mind connections, both hardware and software. In a previous issue, I suggested that your brain is the hardware and your mind is the software, just like in a computer. What is a computer worth without software programs to make all that hardware work in a way that allows you to do the work you want to do? Boat anchor. Then again, what is the software worth if you have no hardware to load it into? Ghostly dreams. No tangible output in either case. Now we know that, because you are reading this, you have some of both of those things. So the next question is: Who (or what) is controlling your hardware and software? Obviously you are, but have you given yourself directions to follow because someone else has said “that’s the only thing that works” or are you acting independently of the current world programming?

For the software side, the ancients used terms like ego and id. Today we say the conscious mind or the subconscious mind.[1] These are two distinct operating systems on one hardware platform and they do entirely different jobs. The conscious part is responsible for knowing, perceiving; having awareness of specifics of your surroundings, processing sensations and thoughts. It is also responsible for showing realization, recognition of things, and logical response to them. Mostly, it works on the level of intentional concepts. The subconscious, by definition, resides just below the conscious mind. Some claim it is responsible for psychic things, but let’s leave that for another discussion. Let us just say, it is responsible for everything your body does or needs that happens below/behind your level of actual awareness. That would include all those autonomic functions you take for granted, such as breathing, heartbeat, blood creation, oxygenation, digestion, nutrient disbursement, etc. Basically, all the routine functions of your body are run by your subconscious mind. That is software burned into ROM (read-only memory) during your gestation prior to birth. It is hardwired to the hardware. But here’s the part you probably did not know: Your conscious mind can give directions to the subconscious to carry out duties you haven’t thought it could do.

Note 1: The world-famous Dr. Carl Jung even included a third piece of software – the collective unconscious, but one might substitute words/phrases like: super-conscious, higher-self, 1st angelic choir, spirit helpers, or even God, depending on your particular belief system. Jung merely meant there is a non-physical connection between all human minds by which we all unconsciously recognize global archetypes/concepts

I’m not talking about conscious override of subconscious controls, like holding your breath (thereby stealing control of that function from the subconscious/autonomic mind/brain). What I want to address here is giving conscious directives to the subconscious to be carried out later when the subconscious has figured out how to make it happen with the least impact (EEPROM activity - electronically erasable programmable ROM). Yes, you really are a lot like the computer you are reading this on. There are programs running in background that you never see, but if they weren’t there, you wouldn’t get very much done.[2] I’d like to show you how to alter the way those programs work within you, so that you can change your reality and never experience that famous blue screen of death that the box you are using for e-mail invariably experiences.

Note 2: For example, when you are sitting and decide to get up, your conscious mind says “get up” and the subconscious is the one that causes all your muscles to expand and contract in correct sequence in order to make that happen in the most effective and orderly manner. If you tried to consciously control each muscle movement, you’d never get anywhere. You would, even as a normal healthy individual, act like someone who has a neuromuscular disease, with jerky movement (or no movements) rather than fluidly rising from your chair. We’ll discuss issues like this in a future article about your body’s electrical systems.

Before proceeding with changing your reality to that of perfect health, I’d like you to read an article I wrote many years ago (presented here in purple to differentiate it from the health-attitude discussion before and after). A couple of you on this list have seen this before, but it has been updated (so read it again) and most of you haven’t seen it all. We’ll continue this after you’ve read the following. You should note that these concepts are really just advanced psychology (sixth year graduate stuff), so it is written in a non-denominational spiritual sense because more people can understand and accept it in that format.

Using Your Field of Intention

by Rich Amber, ©1999, 2006

(and James Redfield and numerous unknown ancient avatars)

Many of you are aware that I had been suffering from severe back pain (three slipped discs and skeletal disintegration), joint pain (particularly nasty in knees, hips, shoulders) and was diagnosed with a bunch of -itises (osteoarthritis, advanced degenerative arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, etc.). I also had high blood pressure caused by an aldosterone imbalance in the adrenals. In addition, I had brain surgery for a small stroke early in 1999 and, while playing in my head, they found a tumor in my throat that they wanted to set up another surgery for. In short, I was stressed to the max by my job (and no doubt a poor general outlook on life) and it was helping to kill off this body.

Some of you also know that I got laid off from my good-paying engineering management position at the end of July 1999. Now that I have had several months of playing house-husband (yes, still unemployed), I realize that I asked for all the above and got all that I asked for.

Some of you are saying, “What!?! You didn’t ask to be sick or to lose your job!” Well, no, not verbally I didn’t, but... well, let me explain an ancient wisdom that I have very recently remembered.

After being out of work for a couple months, I woke up one morning with a full remembrance of something we should all never have forgotten. God gave us an ability to overcome our adversities, but we have had that programmed out of us by various control freaks (government, physicians, the Church, etc.). I had known bits and pieces of this old wisdom, but putting it all together into a cohesive working knowledge was lacking until then. And now that I have it figured out and have used it to heal many of my aches and pains, I think it is time to share it with all of you.

Funny part is, while playing house-husband and doing the grocery shopping, I had this awesome synchronicity while wandering past the book section in Costco - James Redfield had a new book out called The Secret of Shambhala (©1999). I was fairly certain this was a continuation of his insights series, which is useable old wisdom wrapped around enjoyable fictional stories (detective cat and mouse mystery stuff). Well, as it turned out, his new story tells exactly what I have just reinstalled in my brain, so I guess it is only fair that I give him credit in the byline (though I notice he never credits the ancient avatars where he got his info in any of his books – heavy sigh).

So are you ready for me to shut up with the preamble and get on with what great power I found that fixed the pains that the doctors have been unable to fix? Yeah, I bet you are... J

I am talking about an energy field we all have in us and around us. It holds your dreams, wants, needs, your expectations, your fears, etc., and it sends these thoughts out to the world in an attempt to create your reality as you desire it to be. We all have this. We all affect our realities through this. We also affect other beings in the world (nay, the entire Universe – quantum physics suggest that things work differently because of the observer than they would with no one watching). If you make it all the way to the end of this article, you will know how to use this energy. Oh, you are already using it, everyday of your life, but you probably are not using it to your own best interest.

I call this energy a Field of Intentions (Redfield called it a Prayer Field). The reason I can’t fall in line with his terminology is that I define a prayer as a request; asking a question (and meditation is listening for an answer).[3] Other than that, his description and mine are perfectly in line (so, no, this is not plagiarism, unless both he and I are guilty of plagiarizing the ancients).

Note 3: To those of you who are so hardcore right wing fundamentalist that you choose to reject anything that might be suggested to have originated outside of Christianity, I might caution that 45 years of comparative religious studies have shown me that no one group/sect has any concept that can’t be proven to have been used by a preceding more ancient culture somewhere else on the globe. “There is nothing new under the sun.” Even Jesus meditated, so get over it!

There are, no doubt, a few of you who would argue my definition of prayer, probably citing the Lord’s Prayer as an example because it “requests” nothing. Well, sorry to tell you this, but the Lord’s Prayer is not a prayer; it is a directive-affirmation. It simply states what will be done, and it does it in a positive manner, as should all affirmations. “Give us this day, our daily bread” is a directive, not a request. So goes the entire thing...

Anyway, back to the Field of Intentions. Your intention energy comes from your divine connection within and flows out in front of you, bringing forth your expectations. If you are doing this in a positive manner, you will be uplifting everyone that your energy touches into his/her own higher-self energy. This maximizes the mysterious evolution of our lives and the awareness of, and completion of, our individual missions[4] on this planet.

Note 4: If you think you don’t have a mission, a reason for existence, I think you are very wrong. But if you are absolutely sure you are not here for a purpose, then you have no need to be taking up valuable real estate, so please leave the planet now. J The rest of us are here to learn and experience something and help others learn/experience something important.

Expectations! Maybe I should define that word because many of you use it differently than I mean it here. An expectation is that which you believe will happen, whether consciously or subconsciously. You say that is what you mean too? Well, what are some examples? OK, how about breathing and having your heart continue to beat? Yes, I expect those to happen. If I expected otherwise, I would be dead now. I expect the sun to come up tomorrow and so far, for all of my lifetime anyway, it has done exactly that. (Apologies to any astrophysicists who would argue that it does not “come up” but that our rotation gives us that impression - OK, I really expect the Earth to continue rotating and the star known as Sol to continue burning gases to make light and heat, etc. Is that better?) In any case, these are examples of expectations. Another expectation is, for example, knowing that there is a huge layoff coming in your company and fearing that you will be one of those who gets the ax. Having unconsciously placed that image in my Field of Intentions, and dwelling on it for months, it was perceived as an expectation, the energy assumed it to be a directive, and acted to make it happen. Viola! I got laid off.

Most people hit bumps in this road of life, challenges that bring on a state of fear/doubt and this collapses the field you were trying to maintain. Prolonged dwelling on that fear can bring sufficient bad images and/or bad expectations (“bad” being a personal judgment of something you consciously think you do not want to happen), which might then create exactly what you fear will happen.

The problem with fear is that it can be very subtle and sneak up on you quickly. A fear image is always about some outcome you consciously don’t want. You fear failing at some task, embarrassing yourself in public, losing your freedom, losing your income, or even losing your life. The difficult part is that when you begin to feel fear, it often turns to anger, and then you use that anger to marshal your forces and fight back against whomever you feel is the threat. Whether you are feeling fear or anger, you have to realize that these emotions come from only one source: those aspects of your life that you desire to hold onto. Because fear and anger come from being concerned that you are going to lose something, the way to avoid all these emotions is to be detached from all outcomes.

Many of you will find detachment very difficult and some even believe it is impossible to detach completely, citing life-or-death matters. How can you not care about that? I did not say you should not care. I said you have to be detached from any particular outcome. To be detached is simply to realize that there is always a higher purpose that can be found in any event, in any outcome. You should always be able to find the silver lining, a positive meaning that you can build on.

What about people who have terminal diseases? My mother died from a degenerative bone disease and cancer in her skeletal system (and my fear of it being genetic is probably why I gave it to myself). It is very hard to be detached from that. But this was the result of that person not being detached enough during the events that led up to such a critical situation. If you learn detachment, your energy can remain high enough to avoid those negative occurrences. If you stay strong mentally, always intending the positive, whether or not the outcome was exactly as you thought, then miracles[5] begin to happen. Yes, I am saying that everything bad that happens to you occurs because you missed some synchronistic opportunity to avoid it (and for those of the pre-birth mission contract ilk, you might have chosen to be ill for a reason – but this document is trying to describe how you can change things that are not part of any contractual agreement yet still might occur).

Note 5: A miracle is not necessarily a religious event. While most people define “miracle” as a marvelous event manifesting a supernatural act of God, it would better be defined as any amazing or wonderful occurrence that appears to be beyond rational consideration. Statistically, however, such an event should occur in your life approximately once a month.

It might seem awful that I say this because I appear to be assigning blame to the person with the terminal illness, making it his/her own fault that s/he is sick because s/he missed an opportunity to find healing. Please do not even think in terms of “blame.” That is a negative judgment. We all do the best we can, but it is a truth we must accept if we are to reach the highest levels of Intention-energy. You must always believe, with a powerful faith, that you will be saved from such problems. And it is you who save yourself – not someone outside of you.

At times you will miss some things. Human conscious knowledge is incomplete and you might even die due to a lack of information. But the truth is that if we all had access to all the knowledge that we eventually will have, you would always be guided out of any perilous situation. You reach your greatest power when you assume that is the case already! This is the way you can stay detached and flexible and build a powerful Field of Intentions.

If your ongoing Intention-energy is strong enough, you expect synchronicity and send energy to others so that they can also expect synchronicity. The overall level of energy will just keep going up (and we will reach that stage many are currently calling Ascension). God has a built-in safety device for all this, however. The power of Intention only gestalts when it is in harmony with the Divine. That is, God will not allow the power to be turned up in your Field of Intentions unless your intentions are in harmony with the Universe’s intentions. [6]

Note 6: Powerful wizards/sorcerers who appear to be using this for huge negatives are the creation of movies and fantasy/fiction books. No one has ever historically documented any such events on this planet that cannot be debunked in terms of hallucinations and/or mass hysteria. The only real magic available to human beings is a marvelous thing called “imagination.”

Now you understand that your Field of Intentions is working constantly in the world, sending out your expectations, and in the case of other people, the effect can be almost instantaneous. Negative intent is not as powerful as positive intent because when you intend negative results, you cut yourself off from your higher-self energies. There usually are some small effects anyway, though you can reverse or overcome them by immediately restarting your field in the positive and flooding it with Love. (In the ancient days, these two sides were called Additive magic and Subtractive magic and the subtractive wizards rarely lived as long as the additive folk, but that’s a whole other book - J.)

Because of these effects, we wrote something that has become known as the Golden Rule. It is claimed by Christians, though it very much predates Christianity, and it is being passed out as “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” I think the full version has been forgotten, but the best available quote appears to be from the Sufi: “Do unto others in the same manner that you would have them do unto you because how you think about them is exactly how they are going to be, and they will treat you accordingly in return.” This means that when you expect a person to behave toward you in a nasty manner (“He’s a damn blue-skinned Centaurian and all them scaly bastards are jerks.”), that is exactly what they will do. Instead, flood that person with positive energy to raise his/her energies. When s/he gets closer in vibration to his/her higher self, s/he will react in a positive manner. If you expect bad, you will get bad. If you expect good, you will get good. (Again, good and bad are judgments. You will get whatever it is you expect, no matter how you judge the result.)

OK, you say, you’ve had enough background information and you want to know the steps required to consciously create your reality (or modify the one you’ve been living in). You got all the preceding because it all begins with your acceptance that your intentions create an energy field around and within you. To recap quickly, this Field of Intentions carries within it your beliefs, expectations, desires, needs, and does what it can to create your reality in such a way as to incorporate all these things. This energy is very real. It flows out from you and affects everything and everybody in your reality.

Once you have the realization that this is real, you can grasp that this field, the effect it has on your reality, can be consciously expanded. (It is far easier to do all this if your energy is high quality, and this can be helped by a change in diet – eliminate heavy processed foods that build up acid solids in your molecular structure, thereby lowering your vibrations – but this also can be a whole book on its own. J) In any case, you should note that the more pure your vibrations, the easier it is to connect with the more subtle energies available within you.

Activating and Using your Field of Intention

1.      Start by sitting comfortably and focusing on the beauty around you (come on, you can find something beautiful in all things). Breathe deeply, like you are starting a meditation. Each time you breathe in, you are pulling more energy into yourself. Each time you breathe out, you are filling and expanding your energy field (use the emotional state of Love). You will be able to verify that this is working because you will perceive things to become even more beautiful as your energy increases. Eventually, you will learn to breathe in the energy consistently, even while on the run.

2.      Set your energy field to increase and enhance the synchronistic flow of your life. (Synchronicities are a direct communication from the energies in the spirit realms, showing you which way to turn to accommodate/create your desired reality.) You do this by staying in a state of conscious alertness and expectation for the next intuition or coincidence that moves your life further along. This expectation sends your energy out even farther and makes it stronger because you are aligning your intentions with the process of growth and evolution structured into the Universe.

3.      Intend that your energy goes out and boosts the level of energy in others, lifting them into their own connection with the divine-within and into their higher-self intuition. This increases the probability of those other people giving you intuitive information that can further enhance your own energy level of synchronicity. (This feedback circuit could change the whole world if we could get everyone to participate.)

It is important that you anchor and maintain the outflow of your energy, otherwise any fearful or angry situation will shut down your field. You can do this by maintaining a posture of detachment towards events and their outcomes. You must always seek a positive meaning and know that the process will produce results that are in your best interest, no matter what appears to be happening around you at any given moment. Such a posture helps you to stay focused on the flow and keeps you from dwelling on the negative images of what might occur if you fail.

If you find a negative image coming to mind, determine whether it is an intuitive warning that needs your action or if it is just fear creeping in. If you decide this is a warning, note it and return to the expectation that a higher synchronicity will guide you past the problem. If it is just fear, banish it and get on with the positive. This anchors your field, your outflow of energy, with a powerful expectation that has always been known as “faith.”

I know you might think I am harping on this area, but please keep those negative thoughts out of your mind, especially concerning other people. When your fears turn to anger, you lapse into thinking the worst, and a negative energy goes out that tends to create in them exactly the bad behavior you expect. Many people think it is a bad thing to say something negative about others but that it is OK to merely think it. Wrong! Thoughts are things. None of this need be done as a ritual or ceremony because it is your thoughts that create your reality as you expect it to be.[7]

Note 7: This is the origin of the Christian concept that to think a sinful act is the same as to actually do that act. Both send the same energy out to the Universe, so if you believe in the concept of sin, then purity of thought is just as important to you as purity of deed.

4.      You must also acknowledge that you have spirit helpers - in this case, angels. No, these are not guides or group souls or even your higher self. But also, please do not think of the angels in the purely biblical sense. You have to think of these angels as spiritual “messengers,” which is all the word originally meant anyway. If you cannot eliminate the picture of luminous winged ladies like the Christian paintings imply, then use another word for these spiritual beings (Redfield uses the Tibetan word “dakini”). They are also expediters. They work the Will of God, and you are part of God (He created you out of Himself, for everything in the Universe is a piece of God), so as long as your intention is in phase with the divine, they will also work your will. Using your Field of Intentions, empower the angels to take action on your behalf.

5.   To activate your intention, state your request three times: once to get your conscious mind wrapped around it and get the verbiage correct (positive intent and stated in the Now, not the future – more on this below), once to deliver that directive to the subconscious mind,[8] and once to go upward to the spirit realm/angels to enlist their support. Now, drop it and get on with something else. If you keep stating or restating your intent, your subconscious will assume you are modifying the directive and will perform no actions until it is certain you are done making the request.

Note 8: Things you “will” are controlled from the conscious mind, but it is not the conscious mind that connects to the God-force, rather the subconscious, and to make the subconscious take action on a desire/want. You have to state it as a foregone conclusion; that it is already happening.

Summary

Begin with the energy of the Creator (God/Source/I AM/Universe/All There Is/Force/pick one). Let it come into your body and fill you up. Let it flow out the top of your head (crown chakra, if you’re into that stuff) and through your eyes. Let it flow out into the world in a constant intention field until you see only beauty and feel only Love. In a heightened alertness, expect this field to move out and boost the fields of others, raising them into their intuitions. With all your expectations, visualize your field being amplified. Empower the angels fully and charge them to take action on your behalf.

Will this always work? Yes! Will you always get what it is you think you want? No. Why? Anything that is not in harmony with divine plans will not be permitted. Likely, anything that is contrary to your own life mission will be deflected by your subconscious or higher self before it gets far from your own ego.

There is no doubt that we each create our own personal realities (sub-sets of Consensus Reality), but many have always doubted we could consciously control it. In my case, my body is rapidly mending itself according to the original template (no doctors and only a tiny fraction of the drugs I used to take are even needed now). I have placed within my Field of Intentions the desire and belief that this body no longer needs to suffer the severe pains of the past several years and, thank God, it has become part of my new reality. This has proven to work for me.

Because we each are 100% responsible for our own lives, what do you intend to do now that you know how?

OK, so how does this Field of Intentions work on your health? Well, look at it this way: there are a few people on the Yeast forum Lannie visits who have been on a special diet for a whole year and they still have all the problems they always had. Why? Because their attitude is that they expect to be sick, so they get what they expect. I know this because of the words they use: “Why am I always sick?” When you use words like that, you are setting your Field of Intentions to always stay sick.

“I want to be well!” you scream out at me. The word “want” is something in the future (as is “need” – if you say “I need” then you will always need it, never getting it) and will always dangle in front of you. Wellness is something you intend to happen tomorrow (and you should know that tomorrow never gets here). Envision wellness now – today! “I am improving every day in every way.” That brings it into the present and everyday that you wake up, you will be better than before. “I want to lose weight!” Yeah, I hear you, but what works best for me is a positive affirmation that “I shed a pound of fat every week and I continue to do so until I reach my desired goal of X.” That is an active present tense, not a future hope.

By consciously stating these things, you reprogram your subconscious to “make it happen.” It will find a way (for me, my subconscious has helped me eliminate foods that were keeping me both fat and in pain – no daily conscious effort required). If your goal is losing weight, you might find that you suddenly have a desire to go for a walk every day and are no longer attracted to candy, Oreos, ice cream, etc. If your goal is to get rid of candida, you will find yourself eating the right foods and avoiding those that contribute to the problem. Yes, do use some conscious logic, but place the goal in your Field of Intentions and your subconscious will take over and do it in a way that quack-solutions get weeded out (you’ll “intuitively know” something is wrong with their information) and it will help you avoid bad foods by giving you a distaste for them.

Bear in mind, if you don’t really want to get well, you never will. If your mental control drama is “woe is me,” you have already programmed your Field of Intentions to do whatever is necessary to get other people to have sympathy for your plight, which means you will stay sick, no matter how much you consciously complain that you want to be well. This is because you like the attention more than you desire health. Get out of that BS and get positive, because negative energy never produces positive results.

Well, let me leave this attitude issue with a warning not to expect “movie magic” from this. Your subconscious mind knows how long any given problem takes to heal. All bodily tissues have a certain replication rate. Once your mind accepts the challenge of healing the body (and you use all the positives previously mentioned to do this), don’t get out of bed tomorrow and say, “I still hurt. See, it didn’t work! I knew it wouldn’t!” First, the mind will not attempt to fix something before the cellular memory and replication cycle can be reprogrammed to produce viable healthy replacement cells. Second, if you expect it won’t, it won’t.

So, how’s your attitude now?

Miscellaneous BS

1. Apparently, Dr. Mercola believes as I do, that this whole bird flu business is a hoax. Here are his latest comments and he even plans to write a book about this (another profit motive?). This awesome USA Today story points out the ultimate fallacy behind America’s plan to fight a non-existent avian flu pandemic. There is a ton of hype around this issue that is there for the sole purpose of deceiving you. The Bush administration’s $7.1-billion plan includes almost $2 billion for vaccine research, development and purchase and about $750 million for useless drugs like Tamiflu. But, it doesn’t address funding for the implementation of services after a pandemic occurs. Could that be because they don’t really expect a pandemic to happen in the first place? This is a virus that does not readily spread from birds to humans, or humans to humans. Most of the people who acquired this infection were bird handlers who were in continuous contact with these sick birds. Does anyone in their right mind envision similar circumstances in the United States? One of the primary purposes of this bird flu deception is to funnel revenues to drug companies, but more importantly allow the government the justification to take away even more of your freedoms. The more I study medicine, the more I begin to understand the connection between the government and the major corporations that benefit from manipulating it for their own good.

2. Recently approved OTC weight loss drug, Alli, shows major stupidity on the part of FDA and consumers. …it turns out that Alli is just barely effective in clinical trials. Patients who took this drug lost about 1 pound a month. That’s hardly any weight loss that all. That’s the same amount of weight loss that you could experience simply by eating about a thousand fewer calories a week, which comes down to just a few cans of soda per week. By the way, that weight loss reversed itself as soon as people went off the drug, meaning they gained it right back. Still, the drug is being heralded as a potential blockbuster because so many Americans are desperate to lose weight and it seems that they will do almost anything to accomplish that goal. What a load of crap! Read more at: http://www.newstarget.com/019386.html

3. Five years ago, the FDA did not approve Ketek, an antibiotic with the generic name telithromycin, for use in the United States. In their decision, they cited toxic effects such as liver damage. However, in response to the FDA’s decision, the drug’s manufacturer Sanofi-Aventis launched a new trial to test its safety. Study 3014 included fabricated data, and led to arrests and prison terms, forcing the FDA to throw out the results. The study is still defended as legitimate by Sanofi-Aventis. Despite this, the FDA reversed its original decision and approved Ketek, based on previous data collected and rejected by the FDA, along with smaller studies and the drug’s European safety record. Study 3014 is still being cited by medical journals to back up Sanofi-Aventis’ claim that Ketek is safe. It is not. It is a killer. Read more at:

4. Can microwave popcorn give you cancer? Microwave popcorn bags are made of paper, but the inside of the bag has to be coated with something that will repel grease and moisture to prevent the bag from becoming a soggy mess while it’s whirling and popping in your microwave oven. When the mix of chemicals used to coat microwave bags is heated, some compounds are known to break down into a substance called perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA – the same stuff under investigation in the Teflon issue). Here’s the bad news: According to the Environmental Protection Agency, PFOA has been identified as a “likely carcinogen.” From Health Sciences Institute newsletter.
